Health Workers Under Siege: Gaza Reports Loss of 12 ICU Nurses in One Week Amid Israeli Conflict

In a statement from the Gaza Strip, Muneer Alboursh, the director general of the Palestinian health ministry, reported that 12 health workers have been killed by Israeli actions over the past week, with several fatalities resulting from targeted assaults on their residences.

In a statement, Alboursh reported that within the past week, Israeli operations have led to the deaths of 12 highly skilled nurses and medical professionals affiliated with the Ministry of Health, especially those serving in intensive care units. It was further noted that several of these individuals lost their lives alongside their entire families.

He claimed that Israel is systematically targeting medical personnel and facilities, particularly in northern Gaza, with the aim of dismantling the health care infrastructure and prompting residents to move further south.

His comments follow recent statements from Israel’s finance minister, who announced that the government is now “finally” addressing what is described as the “civilian structure of Hamas.”

On October 7, 2023, Israel initiated a military campaign in the Gaza region, resulting in the deaths of at least 53,762 Palestinians, as reported by the Gaza health ministry.

In January, Israel was compelled to agree to a ceasefire agreement with Hamas after failing to meet its objectives, which included the “elimination” of the Palestinian resistance movement and the release of prisoners.

The initial 42-day phase of the ceasefire, which witnessed numerous alleged breaches attributed to Israeli actions, concluded on March 1. Despite this, Israel is currently abstaining from entering negotiations concerning the subsequent phase of the accord.

On March 18, hostilities resumed as the regime recommenced its aerial attacks on Gaza, thereby ending a ceasefire that had persisted for almost two months.
