Heavy rain kills 16 in southern Pakistan

At least 16 people have been killed and 50 others injured in different incidents following heavy downpours in the southern city of Karachi in Pakistan.

Police officials told a Press TV correspondent that the deaths occurred mainly as a result of electrocution, traffic accidents and the collapse of buildings in the city which received 77 mm of rainfall on Saturday.

Following a power breakdown due to the heavy rainfall left more than half of the city without electricity.

Top officials of the Sindh province which Karachi is located at continued to monitor the situation and issued instructions to various authorities to cope with the situation arising from the first monsoon shower this year.
