Director-General of Pars Special Economic Energy Zone (PSEEZ) Ahmad Pourheidar said energy exports via his region have witnessed a remarkable growth both in terms of value and volume in the recent months.

Iran exported about 14.531 million tons of light and heavy polyethylene, gas condensate, propane gases, butane, benzene, and paraxylene during the period from mid-march 2012 to mid-January 2013, Pourheidar said on Monday.

Iran has exported $11.804 bln worth of gas condensate and petrochemical products from Pars Special Energy Economic Zone in Assalouyeh in the southern province of Bushehr over the last ten months, Pourheidar went on to say.

The Iranian official added that gas condensate accounted for 7.561 mln tons of the total exports which were valued at $6.732 bln.

During the same period, Pourheidar added, seven mln tons of non oil products, valued at $4.8 bln, were exported.

According to Pourheidar, countries such as China, Japan, the UAE, India, Indonesia, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Turkey, Romania, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Afghanistan were the main target markets for the exported goods.

Late in December, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad inaugurated two major energy projects in Pars Special Economic Energy Zone.

In a special ceremony, President Ahmadinejad inaugurated a 1200-km long ethylene pipeline which transfers ethylene to Western Iran.

The 8-24 inch pipeline will transfer the ethylene produced in Kavian petrochemical complex in Pars energy zone to other petrochemical complexes in Andimeshk, Kermanshah, Kurdistan, Mahabad, Miyandoab and Lorestan.

President Ahmadinejad also inaugurated the second phase of Kavian petrochemical complex in the PSEEZ.

The second phase will bring the total ethylene production in Kavian complex to 2mln tons per annum.

Pars Special Economic Energy Zone was established in 1988‏‎ for the utilization of South ‎Pars oil and gas resources and encouraging commercial activities in the field of oil, gas and ‎petrochemical industries.‎

South Pars gas field is a natural gas condensate field located in the Persian Gulf. It is the world’s largest gas field, shared between Iran and Qatar. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the field holds an estimated 1,800 trillion cubic feet (51 trillion cubic meters) of in-situ natural gas and some 50 billion barrels (7.9 billion cubic meters) of natural gas condensate.
