Kuwait, UAE underline IRI’s presence in IPU session

Parliament Speaker of Kuwait Jassem al-Kharafi and speaker of the United Arab Emirates’ Federal National Council stressed the importance of Iran’s presence in the upcoming summit meeting of the Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union in Abu Dhabi.

The two officials made the remarks while holding separate telephone conversations with Iran’s Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani on Monday evening.

They underlined that Iran’s participation in the Islamic IPU would strengthen unity among the regional states and convergence between the Islamic countries as well.

The IRI speaker for his part elaborated on the regional developments in Palestine, Lebanon and Sudan, stressing the need to maintain vigilance and establish sovereignty in the Muslim countries.

Larijani said the Islamic IPU is a place for holding debates on the important issues of the world of Islam.

Spokesman of Iran’s Parliament (Majlis) National Security and Foreign policy Commission Kazem Jalali had said earlier this week that the Islamic Republic of Iran will not attend the IIPU summit meeting and had called it as illegal.

‘The United Arab Emirates (UAE) because of having the presidency of the union has organized two meetings for the executive committee and this is against the regulations of the Inter-Parliamentary Union,’ Jalali said.
