Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Iranian Parliament’s Director General for International Affairs, said the presence of Iran’s military advisors in regional countries has been a tremendous help in combating terrorism.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made the remark in a meeting with Secretary of State at the Swiss Foreign Ministry Yves Rossier on Tuesday in Tehran, where the two sides conferred on the latest developments in the Middle East.

“Iran will always be a believer in political solutions for putting a stop to the regional and international crises, and has never spared any efforts on this path,” Amir-Abdollahian said.

He went on to add, “a number of Iranian military advisors that had provided effective aid in fight against terrorism upon the request of Iraqi and Syrian governments have been martyred. These people have had a great role in helping with the regional security.”

Amir-Abdollahian further criticized Saudi Arabia for its aggression in Yemen, and the Bahraini government for violating human rights in regard to its own citizens; “the repeated mistakes of the US and its allies in region have led to this current chaotic situation and the growth of terrorism in Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Libya and other countries from the Middle East to North Africa,” he added.

The Iranian official also thanked Switzerland for its humanitarian aid toward the settlement of regional issues, and called for closer cooperation between Tehran and Bern in this regard.

Yves Rossier, for his part, commended Iran’s role in the restoration of peace and stability to the region, saying Swiss authorities fully welcome joint actions with Iran aimed at promoting peace and stability in the region and the world.

“Switzerland also believes in political and non-military solutions as the only mechanism for settling current crises and on this path, it requires cooperation with countries such as Iran,” he said.

He also urged observance of human rights in Bahrain, and called for joint action among all countries in the fight against terrorism.

During the meeting, the two sides deemed the process of combating terrorism in Iraq positive and promising, and discussed the measures taken by Iraqi government and armed forces in fighting ISIL terrorists.
