Iran’s cloned calf Tamina dies of fever

Like his identical twin, Iran and the Middle East’s second cloned calf has died because of a high fever of unknown origin.

Mohammad Hossein Nasr, the head of Royan Research Center told ISNA News Agency that the three day-old ‘Tamina’ has died with the same symptoms as ‘Bonyana’, the first cloned calf.

He added that acute intermittent fever of unknown origin is a common cause of death among cloned calves.

“While Bonyana was reported to be healthy, researchers have found certain anatomical abnormalities while assessing the second calf created through cloning,” reported Nasr.

Nasr, however, stressed that the two calves had died due to hyperthermia rather than anatomical abnormalities.

Scientists reported that their upcoming researches for manufacturing new recombinant medications, particularly TPA would focus on goats because of their lower price and shorter gestational age; they, however, will continue their research on cows.
