After Hamas warning, Israel compelled to permit the entry of 800 aid trucks into Gaza

In response to pressure from Hamas, the Israeli authorities have permitted the entry of approximately 801 trucks laden with humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian Sama News Agency reported late Wednesday, citing sources in Gaza, that the Israeli authorities had granted permission for trucks to enter the region.

The situation unfolded subsequent to a warning issued by Hamas, the governing authority of the Gaza Strip, indicating that the release of three Israeli detainees under a ceasefire agreement with Israel could face delays if Tel Aviv persisted in breaching the terms of the accord.

On Monday, Abu Obeida, spokesperson for Hamas’ al-Qassam Brigades, accused the Israeli military of obstructing the return of displaced individuals to the northern Gaza Strip. He stated that Israeli forces were engaging in shelling and gunfire across different regions of the area and were blocking the entry of agreed-upon relief supplies.

In October 2023, Israel initiated military operations targeting the Gaza Strip. A formal ceasefire was established on January 19, after a period of 15 months of conflict. However, information from the Gaza Health Ministry indicates that subsequent to the commencement of the ceasefire, Israeli airstrikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 118 Palestinians and left 822 others injured.

According to the terms of the agreement, a daily convoy of 600 aid trucks is scheduled to enter Gaza.
