Iran Urges Halt to zionist Israel’s Settlement Construction Activity

A1134390Iran once again underlined the necessity for an immediate halt to all Israeli settlement construction activities in the Palestinian territories.

Salehi made the remarks at a meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement’s Committee on Palestine held on the sidelines of the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Egyptian capital, Cairo.

During the meeting, Salehi, who is also the President of NAM ministerial council, briefed participants about Iran and the NAM’s stance on Palestine.

He stressed the necessity of condemning Israel’s settlement activities in the occupied lands and taking the necessary actions to stop Judaization of the Palestinian territories and East Quds (Jerusalem).

The Iranian minister also laid emphasis on the importance of the recent upgrading of Palestine’s status at the UN as well as end of Israeli occupation and Palestine’s
sovereignty over its territories.

In November, the UN General Assembly voted to grant nonmember observer status to the state of Palestine.

The 193-member assembly voted 138-9 with 41 abstentions at the UN headquarters in New York for a resolution approving the upgrade. Nine members, including Canada, Israel, and the United States, voted against it.

The vote is seen as a victory for the Palestinians, but an embarrassing diplomatic defeat for the United States.
