“International Conference on Science and Technology Education with Focus on the Islamic World” kicks off

“International Conference on Science and Technology Education with Focus on the Islamic World” kicked off in Kish Island, southern Iran.

Explaining basic theories of science and technology education within Islamic view, creating necessary grounds for cooperation among Islamic countries for science and technology education are some of the objectives of this conference.

Dr Abbas Sadri, head of the bureau for Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) in Tehran said,” Muslim countries have very good educational sources and they should not set western countries as an example.”

Mahmoud Mehr Mohammadi, secretary of the International Conference on Science and Technology Education with Focus on the Islamic World referred to the special stance of the educational systems in the modern world and said,” These modern systems do not have a place in the educational systems of the Muslim countries.” adding that this might bring the misunderstanding that there is a contradiction between science and tendency to science with Islamic teachings.

He said,” New views on Islam have found the religion free of such accusations.” and added that the conference is based on the same reasoning hence the bare fact that Islamic Republic of Iran is hosting the event shows the strong motivation for more scientific moves.

Five specialty conventions and 11 paper presentations are among the sideline programs of this conference.

History of science and technology education in Muslim world, religious, philosophical and moral considerations in educational syllabuses, challenges of science education and reasons for underdevelopment of Muslim countries are among the topics that are to be discussed in this conference.

“International Conference on Science and Technology Education with Focus on the Islamic World” is held by the cooperation of Science, Research and Technology Ministry, ISESCO bureau in Tehran, Kish Free zone Island and Kish Institute of Language and Technology and also International Organization of Science and Technology Education (IOSTE).

“International Conference on Science and Technology Education with Focus on the Islamic World” is underway in the southern Island of Kish in Iran on 10th -12th July2011.
