Iran burns tons of seized drugs

Iran has marked the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking by burning tons of narcotics.

The flow of drugs from Afghanistan has increased manyfold since the beginning of the U-S-led war in that country, say Iranian security officials.

This is while poppy cultivation throughout Afghan cities continues to be a lucrative business.

On 7 December 1987, the UN General Assembly decided to observe June 26 as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.
