Iran declaration to reveal US intention
Iran’s Judiciary chief says the fuel swap declaration will reveal whether the US is genuinely interested in resolving the standoff over Tehran’s nuclear program.
Speaking at a gathering of high-ranking judiciary officials in Tehran on Sunday, Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani urged Washington and its allies to abandon nuclear “games” and start diplomacy.
“The recent nuclear declaration will determine whether claimant Western countries, especially the US, seek constructive interaction on the nuclear issue or are solely after their own interests,” Ayatollah Larijani was quoted as saying by ISNA.
The remarks come nearly one week after Iran, Turkey and Brazil issued a declaration based on which Tehran announced readiness to swap its low-enriched uranium on Turkish soil for fuel for a medical research reactor.
“America and other Western countries must prepare for constructive interaction and reaching a respectful agreement with Iran and stop playing games over Iran’s nuclear issue,” the judiciary chief stressed, adding that that Iranian nation would never retreat from its nuclear rights.
As a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Tehran stresses its nuclear program is within a legal framework.
Iran has repeatedly declared that it is seeks the civilian applications of nuclear technology for electricity generation and medical research, rejecting Western allegations that its nuclear program is a military one.
