Iran denounces Israeli military strikes on Syrian territory, calls for urgent intervention by UN

Esma’eel Baqayi, the spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, has issued a stern condemnation of the latest Israeli air and ground attacks targeting southern Syria and areas near Damascus.
On Thursday, Baqayi issued a stern warning concerning the ongoing “expansionist and aggressive actions” by the Israeli regime on Syrian soil. He called on the international community, with a particular emphasis on Islamic countries, to condemn Israel’s actions and to urgently implement measures to halt these violations.
He described Israeli strikes on Syria as a clear breach of the U.N. Charter, international law, and the nation’s sovereignty, further stating that the continued occurrence of these aggressive actions amounted to an invasion.
The spokesperson urged the United Nations Security Council to take swift action in addressing what they described as Israeli aggression and breaches of international peace and security.
Late Tuesday, the Israeli military conducted a series of airstrikes targeting multiple sites in the Damascus countryside and Daraa province in southern Syria. This military action follows Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent call for the “demilitarization” of the area.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has firmly stated that Israel does not plan to retreat from southern Syria, emphasizing that Israeli forces will prevent Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) from advancing into areas south of Damascus.
In a sudden and unexpected offensive in December, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) militants successfully seized control from the government of President Bashar al-Assad.
