Iran Gaining Major Share In Science Generation

Minister of Science, Research and Technology Kamran Daneshjoo says Iran is gaining a major share in science generation as more than 12,000 articles were registered in the name of Iran at international academies over the past few months.
Daneshjoo told a group of parliamentarians that Iran’s share in world science generation grew to 1.941 percent–nearly 2 percent–this year from 1.2 percent last year, IRNA said.
He said Iran reserved top rank in the region last year in terms of science generation, which is an evidence of the high quality of education in the country.
Earlier, Iran’s Deputy Health Minister Mostafa Qanei said Iran ranked first in scientific progress in the world in 2011.
“According to statistics published in Nature, Iran ranks 40th in science production and first in scientific growth in the world in 2011,” according to Qanei.
Iran has witnessed a 20-percent growth in science production in the current year.
“Iran is ranked second after Turkey (in the region) in terms of science production, with a difference of 2,000 articles,” Qanei added.
In 2000, the Islamic Republic remained at 53rd place in the world in terms of highly cited medical articles. With a steady growth, Iran took 23rd place in 2011.
According to the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI), Iranian researchers and scientists published a total of 60,979 scientific articles in major international journals from 1999 to 2008.
