Iranian parliamentary team’s visit to Cuba accelerates the expansion of relations between Tehran and Havana, the Cuban ambassador to Iran says.

“The visit by the Iranian parliamentary delegation, headed by Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Iran’s Majlis Alaeddin Boroujerdi… will lead to the development and enhancement of relations between the two countries,” said Vladimir Andres Gonzalez Quesada on Wednesday.

He said that the visit can specially boost the relations in the parliamentary field.

The Iranian parliamentary delegation left Tehran for Cuba and Venezuela early Monday and will arrive in the Cuban capital on Thursday.

“Iran and Cuba relations are currently at the highest level, we are fully satisfied with the expansion of Iran-Cuba relations and these relations are advancing,” Quesada said.

He further pointed out that Boroujerdi will sit down for talks with a number of parliamentary officials during the two-day visit. He added the meetings will provide abundant opportunities for developing relations between the two countries and consulting about different projects.

Boroujerdi had earlier said that the planned trip was aimed at further strengthening Iran’s relations with the Latin American countries.

The Iranian delegation was scheduled to travel to Cuba and Venezuela on Sunday. However, the trip was postponed after the US warned Aeroflot Russian Airlines that its airliner was not allowed to pass through US skies with the Iranian Majlis team on board.

Iranian lawmakers, however, set off for the two Latin American countries with a one-day delay, taking a different aerial route than the one previously planned.
