Iran launches AI-enhanced missile-equipped drones during significant military exercises in the Persian Gulf
The commander of the Navy of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has announced that advanced domestically-produced drones, operated by the elite unit, have successfully launched missiles equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) technology as part of a significant naval exercise currently taking place in the Persian Gulf.

Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri announced on Sunday in Bushehr, a southern port city in Iran, that units from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy launched an array of missiles, including both surface-to-sea and surface-to-surface, with varying ranges. This activity was part of the second day of the expansive Payambar-e-A’azam (The Great Prophet) military exercises.
In a recent development, IRGC specialists have upgraded the multirole Mohajer-6 ISTAR UAVs and Ababil-5 combat drones with advanced versions of Qaem and Almas precision-guided missiles. These upgraded missiles now feature artificial intelligence capabilities, enhancing their ability to accurately engage specified targets.
The commander announced that the IRGC Navy has successfully launched Navvab missiles for the inaugural time, aimed at providing aerial defense for the domestically-built Shahid Soleimani patrol combat vessel.
Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri stated that the naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) conducted missile tests, launching both cruise and ballistic missiles. Additionally, they deployed an enhanced version of the Qadr missile, which boasts increased range and precision capabilities specifically designed to withstand electronic warfare scenarios.
The commander has stated that the Payambar-e-A’azam naval exercises were designed to enhance the readiness of the IRGC naval forces against any potential threats or provocations from adversaries. Additionally, these exercises conveyed a message of peace and friendship to neighboring countries.
