Iran: Masked Terrorists Shouldn’t Participate in Syria Meeting

“The Saudi stubbornness to facilitate the participation of certain terrorists under the guise of dissidents in Syria talks is counter-productive,” Amir Abdollahian said in a Monday meeting in Tehran with United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Sigrid Kaag.

“These terrorists have committed crimes. They cannot be allowed to take part in the talks behind a new mask. This goes against what the people of Syria want,” he added.

Amir Abdollahian stressed that Tehran is doing everything it can to get everyone on board to resolve the crisis diplomatically.

His remarks came after Saudi Arabia introduced Mohammed Mustafa Aloush, the politburo chief of Jeish al-Islam terrorist group, as an opposition activist to attend the Geneva-II. Mohammed Mustafa is the cousin of Jeish al-Islam commander Zahran Aloush who was recently killed by Syrian forces.

A Syrian opposition activist warned on Saturday that Saudi Arabia had sent out invitations to various terrorist groups in a bid to derail the upcoming Geneva-II diplomatic negotiations.

“The Saudis have set up a booby trap to derail the Russian initiative by including the names of some terrorists in the list of the Syrian opposition figures and representatives,” Fateh Jamous told FNA.

The activist warned that if Riyadh and Washington get the chance to have everyone on board, including the terrorist groups’ representatives, the Geneva-II talks will in no way resolve the Syrian crisis.
