British Foreign Secretary William Hague has threatened Hezbollah resistance movement with “consequences” over the 2012 bus bombing in Bulgaria, which killed five Israelis, despite Hezbollah’s vehement denial of any involvement in the attack.

Hague suggested after meeting Lebanese President Michel Suleiman in Beirut on Thursday that Hezbollah has been behind the attack claiming Lebanon has promised to cooperate with Bulgaria in its inquiry into the bombing in the city of Burgas.

“I welcomed Lebanon’s commitment to cooperate with the Bulgarian investigation into the bombing of a bus in Burgas,” Hague said.

His remark comes despite the fact that Lebanese authorities have not so far made any official comment about claims by a Bulgarian court earlier this month that Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement was responsible for the bombing.

Hezbollah has rejected any involvement in the incident and there are speculations that the Bulgarian report has been fabricated to persuade the European Union to blacklist the Lebanese movement as a terrorist group.

The EU has so far resisted any such move, but Hague’s remarks suggest Britain is lobbying the bloc to follow suit on London and classify Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.
