Iran MP urges UN to probe Israeli jails

The head of Iran’s Majlis (parliament) Human Rights Committee has urged the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to inspect the condition of detained Palestinian minors in Israeli prisons.

Zohreh Elahian made the appeal in a letter to the executive director of the UNICEF, Anthony Lake, describing the condition of Palestinian children in Israeli prisons as “terrible,” IRNA reported on Monday.

Elahian pointed out that the violations of the rights of Palestinian children by the Zionist Israeli regime deteriorate on a daily basis. She said that Tel Aviv has specifically chosen to carry out arbitrary arrests, terrorize and torture the Palestinian kids in disregard of the conventions on the rights of children.

The Iranian lawmaker further explained that according to rights organizations, including the Geneva-based Defense for Children International, the Zionist Israeli regime has practiced “systematic exploitation” of the detained Palestinian minors.

Elahian also urged the UN body to consider the immediate inspection of Zionist Israeli prisons in order to put an end to the violations of the rights of young Palestinian detainees.
