The Iranian Supreme Leader’s top military aide challenged the US and the Zionist regime’s intensified war rhetoric against Tehran, saying that the two arch-foes of the Islamic Republic do not dare to stage a military attack against Iran.
“If the Zionists and Americans dare, they can come (to war with Iran) because our Basiji (volunteer) forces are ready to confront them,” Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi said on Wednesday.
He reiterated that if the US and the Zionist forces dare to attack the country, they will ambushed by the Iranian Armed Forces.
Rahim Safavi, who used to be the commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) for 10 years, said Zionists and Americans have worked out various plots to counter the growing influence of Islamic Revolution, and added, “We are in ambush to hunt the Zionists.”
Rahim Safavi said Jihad is typical of the Iranian people who are always ready to defend their homeland, and said enemies are not able to make a zealous nation surrender to their political will.
Israel and its close ally the United States accuse Iran of seeking a nuclear weapon, while they have never presented any corroborative document to substantiate their allegations. Both Washington and Tel Aviv possess advanced weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear warheads.
Iran vehemently denies the charges, insisting that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only. Tehran stresses that the country has always pursued a civilian path to provide power to the growing number of Iranian population, whose fossil fuel would eventually run dry.
Iran has warned that in case of an attack by either the US or Israel, it will target 32 American bases in the Middle East as well as the United States’ and Israel’s worldwide interests and close the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
An estimated 40 percent of the world’s oil supply passes through the waterway.
