Senior Cleric: US Not Trustworthy for Talks

Tehran’s provisional Friday Prayers Leader Ayatollah Mohammad Emami Kashani said that Iran cannot trust Washington to sit to the negotiating table again after US President Donald Trump discarded the internationally-endorsed 2015 nuclear deal.

Addressing a large and fervent congregation of the people in Tehran on Friday, Ayatollah Emami Kashani said, “The enemies are seeking to pressure Iran to take part in negotiations; Iran will not bow to pressures and its stances are the same ones stated by Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.”

He underlined that the US will not remain committed to the outcome of its talks with Iran, and said, “The US president is a liar with at least seven lies per day.”

In relevant remarks in late June, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani blasted the US and its regional allies for fueling insecurity and instability in the region, and said that the Muslim countries should resist Washington’s bullying.

“The US, the Zionist regime and certain regional countries have leading role in major crises in the region,” Shamkhani said in a meeting with National Security Advisor to the Iraqi Prime Minister Faleh al-Fayad.

He underlined that some countries that think they can ensure their own security and stability of the region by putting their trust in the United States are practically bolstering terrorism, and said, “The White House leaders do not even hesitate to shamelessly attack Iraqi and Syrian armed forces in order to support terrorism.”

Shamkhani reiterated that Iran has always stood by the Iraqi people.

“It is Tehran’s unwavering stance to support the Iraqi nation’s demands in line with the war-ravaged country’s development and progress, particularly after the defeat of terrorism,” he added.
