Iran rejects US war plan as madness

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi says a US or Israeli strike against Iran would be “madness.”

“We do not imagine that a war is going to be launched against Iran, as such a move, under the present circumstances of the Israelis, which is far worse than the Americans, would be a madness,” ISNA quoted Gen. Firouzabadi as saying on Monday.

Amid a standoff over Iran’s nuclear program, both Tel Aviv and Washington have repeatedly threatened Tehran with the “option” of a military strike, based on their unfounded, but constantly repeated allegation that Iran’s nuclear work may consist of a covert military agenda .

The latest threat of a military action was invoked by US Admiral Mike Mullen who claimed he was ready to start a war if he was convinced it would keep Iran from making a “bomb.”

“This man (Admiral Mullen) paraded the option of war to promote his own military career,” the Iranian General added. “But considering the current internal state of the US and Israel, launching a war against a nation like Iran is inconceivable, since Iran will inflict heavy losses on them.”

Iranian officials have fiercely rejected the US-led allegations, censuring Western powers for imposing a host of UN and unilateral sanctions on Iran as diplomatic efforts between Iran, Brazil and Turkey were bearing fruit in resolving its nuclear standoff.

Tehran argues that as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, it has the right to use peaceful nuclear energy for electricity generation and medical research.
