Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian renewed Iran’s support for a political solution to the crisis in Yemen.

“Tehran supports the start of political talks of the Yemenis in Kuwait and gaining access to political agreement in the Arab country,” Amir Abdollahian said on Tuesday.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister pointed to the developments in Yemen over the past year, and said, “The Yemeni people’s resistance against foreign aggressors and massive movements of terrorists proved that the only solution to Yemen is national dialogue and non-interference of foreigners.”

Amir Abdollahian said that the efforts of the UN envoy in Yemen to resolve the political crisis are expected to bear result.

In a relevant development on Sunday, Amir Abdollahian welcomed ceasefire in Yemen, but meantime, expressed concern about the continued humanitarian crisis in the war-hit country.

“Ceasefire is a good opportunity to start Yemeni-Yemeni talks,” Amir Abdollahian said in a meeting with his Czech counterpart Martin Tlapa in Tehran.

He also voiced concern about the growing trend of terrorism and the continued humanitarian crisis in Yemen.

During the meeting, Amir Abdollahian and Tlapa also discussed other regional developments, specially in Syria.

Saudi Arabia has been waging a war on Yemen since late March 2015 in a bid to reinstate Mansour Hadi and undermine the Ansarullah movement, which took over state matters after Hadi resigned.

Over 9,400 Yemenis, including 4,000 women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.

Yemenis, in return, have been carrying out retaliatory attacks on the pro-Saudi forces deployed in the country as well as targets inside Saudi Arabia.
