Iran to start gasoline exports soon

After reaching “self-sufficiency” in gasoline production for domestic use, Iran now says it will become an exporter of the product in the near future.

The Iranian Oil Ministry earlier announced that the country’s gasoline production had increased by 20 million liters (5,284,000 gallons), making Iran self-sufficient, despite the recent US-engineered sanctions.

“In the near future, we will be among countries exporting gasoline,” Minister Massoud Mir-Kazemi told SHANA on Wednesday.

He went on to add that the country’s latest achievement was a step toward “cutting dependency on domineering countries.”

The UN Security Council imposed a fourth round of sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program in June.

Following the move, the US, the EU and a number of other countries imposed unilateral sanctions, mainly targeting the Iranian energy and financial sectors.

Tehran has repeatedly stressed that its nuclear program is civilian in nature, adding that as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency it has the right use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
