Zarif on Monday sent separate messages to his counterparts in the Palestine Committee of the Non-Aligned Movement member states to invite them to participate in an emergency meeting on Gaza due to be held in Tehran later this week.

In his messages, the foreign minister condemned the ongoing crimes against humanity in Gaza by the Zionist regime, and said the depth of the disaster in Gaza requires the international community, particularly the Non-Aligned Movement to act urgently to end the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

In relevant remarks on Monday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a phone talk with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan called for cooperation and immediate efforts by Islamic countries to render effective help and assistance to the people in Gaza, stop the Zionist regime’s attacks and remove the siege of the enclave.

“If Cairo provides the ground for cooperation and sending goods, Tehran and Ankara can plan for collecting and sending humanitarian aids of the region and the Muslim world to help the oppressed people of Gaza,” Rouhani said.

Erdogan, for his part, congratulated the Iranian people and government on the advent of Eid Al-Fitr (the Muslim Feast, marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan), and underlined continued cooperation with Iran in resolving the regional problems.

Israel has been pounding the blockaded Gaza for 22 consecutive days, killing at least 1,100 people and injuring more than 6,500 others.

An elementary school packed with hundreds of Palestinian evacuees seeking shelter under UN protection came under heavy Israeli fire Thursday, leaving 17 people dead and more than 200 wounded, including women, children and infants.
