Intelligence Minister: 200 Terrorists Captured by Iran During Past Months

Iranian Intelligence Minister Esmayeel Khatib said that some 200 members of several terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL) have been arrested by the country's security forces since the beginning of the current Iranian calendrer year.

Speaking on an Iranian TV show on Monday, Khatib stated some 200 terrorists were detained across the country since the beginning of the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2023).

He added that the militants were not affiliated to Daesh only; they belonged to groups created by certain Western states.

The minister disclosed on Sunday that the Iranian security forces have discovered and defused 400 bombs over the past few months, stating 40 of the explosive devices were planned to be detonated during the month of Muharram.

Iran has been the target of terrorist attacks in the past few decades and thousands of its citizens have been martyred by the terrorist groups. Iranian officials stress that the country is a victim of terrorism. They say Tehran has lost more people than any other country in the fight against terrorism, critisizing the Western countries for their double-standard policies on terrorism.

In recent years, Iranian security forces have captured hundreds of members of the terror groups planning to carry out terror attacks across the country. The militants were involved in making explosives and hand-made bombs and linked to foreigners and planned to carry out counter-security acts and set up operational groups to direct the riots in Iran.
