Iran warns about spread of terrorism

Iran has warned certain countries against continuation of warmongering policies, saying their dual position on terrorist groups has led to an expansion of terrorism.

“It is necessary to establish and promote the culture of peace and reject violence in combating terrorism. This will be brought about through governments’ commitment to the use of peaceful ways in order to resolve differences and refrain from resorting to violence in international relations,” Iran’s ambassador to the UN, Mohammad Khazaei, said Wednesday.

He said Iran condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and added, “State terrorism is the most dangerous and destructive form (of terrorism).”

Khazaei noted that resorting to blind violence, killing and injuring civilians and causing fear among nations are criminal acts and condemned them as “unjustifiable.”

The Iranian ambassador said the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy calls for the resolve of the international community to strongly tackle terrorism under UN supervision.

The UN General Assembly issued a resolution in 2008 calling on member states and appropriate international, regional and sub-regional organizations to step up their efforts to implement the strategy in an integrated manner.

The strategy was adopted unanimously by the General Assembly in September 2006 and remains the strategic framework on joint efforts by the international community to counter terrorism.
