Iran will not stand for election unrest: Cmdr. Safavi

Iran will not stand for election unrest

A senior Iranian military official says the nation will not stand for any attempts to create unrest and sedition before and after the upcoming presidential election.

“We warn domestic and foreign enemies and counterrevolutionary groups that any attempts to incite unrest or create sedition before or after the election will receive a vigilant and decisive response from the Iranian nation,” Major General Yahya Rahim-Safavi said on Sunday.

The commander, who is also a senior military adviser to Leader of the Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Seyyed Ali Khamenei, added that the Iranian nation would once again achieve victory.

“Relevant organizations and bodies must predict and [adopt] preventative [measures] against any domestic or foreign[-sponsored] unrest,” he concluded.

The Islamic Republic’s 11th presidential election will be held in June and presidential hopefuls will be allowed to register from May 7 to 11.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election and the Guardian Council vets the candidates for qualifications.
