Iran: Zionist criminals undermining the efficacy of the UN, acts of genocide continue unabated

The Director of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI) has condemned the United Nations for its inability to halt the severe violations perpetrated by the Israeli regime against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. He asserted that the actions of what he termed as criminal Zionists have effectively incapacitated the international institution.

During a ceremony held in Tehran on Monday to honor the martyrs of the Al-Aqsa Flood and the resistance front, Mohammad Eslami delivered his remarks.

A spokesperson has accused the Zionist faction of incapacitating the United Nations, a body traditionally committed to upholding human rights and justice. They questioned the stance of international organizations that have often criticized the Islamic Republic, asking what action they might take in response to these alleged crimes. The spokesperson also expressed skepticism about whether the United Nations and the Security Council would intervene.

More than 45,000 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, have lost their lives in the ongoing conflict that erupted following the Al-Aqsa Flood operation. The operation, conducted by Gaza’s resistance movements on October 7, 2023, was a reaction to the prolonged and lethal occupation and aggression faced by Palestinians.

The United States, recognized as Israel’s key ally and principal supporter, has effectively halted United Nations initiatives intended to bring an end to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Over the past year, the United States has exercised its veto power on four United Nations Security Council resolutions advocating for a ceasefire in Gaza.

In a recent United Nations General Assembly vote, an overwhelming majority of 167 member states expressed support for the Palestinian people’s right to statehood, while the United States and a handful of up to five other nations opposed the resolution. Despite the significant majority, Eslami highlighted that the few opposing countries hold a disproportionately decisive influence in international matters, leading to the effective disregard of the majority’s decision.

The Palestinian population aspires to establish the West Bank as part of a prospective independent state, designating East Jerusalem as its capital. This ambition exists against the backdrop of more than 600,000 Israelis residing in upwards of 230 settlements deemed illegal, which have been constructed since Israel’s 1967 occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

According to international law and the Geneva Conventions, the global community regards the establishment of settlements on occupied territories as illegal.

Amidst the ongoing situation, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) reiterated the unwavering commitment of advocates for truth and justice to challenge the current circumstances. The official stressed that this coalition not only remains resolute but also is poised to advance its efforts with heightened vigor and determination to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

In his statement, Eslami highlighted that leading nations often bolster their own economic interests by limiting access to advanced technologies in developing countries, thereby impeding their economic progress.

He stated that ever since the triumph of the Islamic Revolution, the nation has continually encountered sanctions. These sanctions, he explained, have been imposed because of the country’s resistance to conforming to the prevailing global order and its unwavering dedication to the Revolution’s foundational principles of independence, freedom, and the Islamic Republic.

Eslami emphasized the necessity for Iran to persist in its developmental trajectory with steadfast effort and determination, notwithstanding prevailing challenges.

He emphasized that through a combination of divine grace and sustained effort, it is possible to surmount these challenges and reach higher levels of achievement.
