Iranian and Omani Diplomats Convene Prior to Indirect US Negotiations
Senior diplomats from Iran and Oman convened in Muscat in advance of upcoming indirect talks with the United States delegation. These negotiations are intended to lift what are described as illegal sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic regarding its civilian nuclear program.

On Saturday morning, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi engaged in discussions with his Omani counterpart, Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi, to deliberate on the organization of the forthcoming indirect negotiations.
Araghchi conveyed his contentment with the robust and enduring ties between Tehran and Muscat, commending Oman for its responsible stance on regional matters and developments. He highlighted Oman’s role in hosting indirect talks between Iran and the U.S. as evidence of this policy.
Busaidi extended a warm welcome to the Iranian foreign minister and his accompanying delegation, praising the strong and cordial relations between Oman and Iran.
He also expressed gratitude to the Islamic Republic of Iran for selecting Muscat as the location for the upcoming indirect discussions with the United States.
**A Respected Accord**
Araghchi emphasized that the Iranian negotiating team is eager to secure a dignified agreement with the US delegation, ensuring both parties engage on an equal footing.
The senior Iranian diplomat expressed optimism, stating that if the opposing party maintains its current stance, there is hope for an initial agreement that could pave the way for future negotiations.
A team of senior Iranian diplomats, led by Araghchi, made their way to Muscat, the capital of Oman, on Saturday morning. Their mission is to engage in indirect talks with the United States regarding Tehran’s civilian nuclear program.
In a recent post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced that he, alongside several of his most seasoned colleagues, is accompanying Araghchi on a visit to the Persian Gulf nation.
Baghaei emphasized the country’s commitment to utilizing all available resources to protect Iran’s strength and national interests.
In a meeting with media and cultural figures in Algeria on Tuesday, Araghchi highlighted that the main aim of the forthcoming talks with the United States in Oman is to address the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear initiatives.
In a statement delineating the agenda for the indirect discussions scheduled for Saturday, it was emphasized that the sole focus will be on the nuclear issue. This involves ensuring transparency and providing guarantees regarding the peaceful intentions of Iran’s nuclear initiatives in return for lifting the harsh sanctions.
The Iranian Foreign Minister emphasized that the forthcoming talks in Muscat present a renewed chance for diplomacy, describing them as a critical assessment of the United States’ sincerity, given its longstanding record of non-commitment and unilateral actions.
Araghchi has announced that he will lead the discussions in Muscat, accompanied by the United States Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff.
Iran has emphasized that the US delegation should avoid using threatening language or making unreasonable demands about its nuclear program, according to reports.
Furthermore, the United States has been counseled to refrain from putting forward any proposals related to Iran’s defense sector.
