3 Indian soldiers killed in Kashmir by resistance attack

Three Indian soldiers have reportedly been killed in a militant attack in the Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Two gunmen on a motorbike opened fire on a military post in the northwestern Sopore area of Kashmir on Saturday evening, killing three soldiers, Central Reserve Police Force spokesman in Srinagar, Pankaj Singh, said.

Singh added that two other soldiers had been wounded in the attack.

The assailants were able to flee, he said.

Police cordoned off the area, and a search for the attackers was ongoing in the neighborhood.

Media reports said it was the fourth attack in the Indian-controlled Kashmir in the past 24 hours.

The attacks took place while Indian army chief, General MM Naravane, was on tour in the area conducting a two-day inspection of Indian troops.

Naravane had on Friday blamed neighboring Pakistan for orchestrating militant attacks against Indian troops in the disputed region.

Pakistan has dismissed such claims.

Kashmir has been disputed between India and Pakistan since their partition in 1947. The two countries have fought three wars over the Himalayan region, currently divided between them by the Line of Control (LoC).

Last week, four civilians, including a two-year-old boy, were killed during an exchange of fire between troops from Pakistan and India.
