Iranian commander warns of plots against Syria

A senior Iranian military commander has warned regional nations against the plots by Israel and “reactionary” forces in the region to distort the realities in Syria.

“Regional nations should examine the current developments with greater care and be vigilant about acts of deception by regional reactionary forces,” Deputy Chairman of Iran’s Chiefs of Staff Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri said on Tuesday.

By resorting to political and media campaigns, “the regional reactionary forces and the Zionists” seek to pretend that the militant groups in Syria will soon be ruling the country, he added.

The Iranian commander also said the anti-resistance efforts made by the US, Israel and Arab reactionaries are doomed to failure.

He further emphasized that these reactionary regimes will have to pay for the bloodshed of innocent Syrians and the losses that have been inflicted on the nation.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011. Many people, including a large number of security forces, have been killed in the turmoil.

The Syrian government says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of militants are foreign nationals.

Damascus says certain Western states, especially the United States, and their regional allies are fueling the unrest.
