Homs: ISIL Collapse in Palmyra Imminent, Syrian Army Enters Ancient City

The Syrian army forces broke the ISIL defense lines in Tadmur and entered the ancient city after liberating the Palmyra Triangle and Castle.

The Syrian troops opened their way into Palmyra (Tadmur) city from the two Southern and Southwestern direction after taking control of all neaby farms and hills.

The army troops also freed the Qatar Royal Palace, al-Fanadeq region, Thaniyat al-Mah region and Heights ‘700-800-900’ near al-Hayal heights while all other areas around the Palmyra Triangle have all been taken back from the ISIL.

Also, the Syrian army units advanced in the remaining areas of al-Hayal mountains and won back full control over them.

Meantime, the Syrian soldiers continued military operations in the Southern and Northeastern parts of Palmyra to lay siege on the city and retake control of al-Ameriyeh district and the strategic heights of al-Ameriyeh to cut off the ISIL supply routes towards Palmyra.

A military source said that the ISIL defense lines have been fully broken, and added that the Syrian forces have won back control of Palmyra Castle after liberating al-Tar mountain and all the hills near the Castle and then entered Palmyra immediately.

The source stressed that ISIL has collapsed in the city militarily after the Syria army earned control over the most important mountains and hills which are considered as the key to fire control over Palmyra.

On Wednesday, the Syrian army troops in a breakthrough victory over ISIL in the Eastern parts of Homs province on Wednesday imposed full control over the entire region of the Palmyra Triangle just to the Western gates of the ancient city.

The army soldiers stormed the defense lines of ISIL in the Western direction of Palmyra and managed to win back the key Palmyra Triangle region after pounding the terrorists with massive artillery and missile fire and Russian airstrikes.

A field source said, meantime, that the army troops are advancing rapidly toward the Palmyra Citadel.

The source went on to say that the army soldiers had gained full control over al-Moqasem and Tarifawi regions and Qaderi farms West of the Palmyra Triangle before seizing back the Triangle itself.

“The ISIL has suffered heavy casualties in the army attack and was forced to retreat from the region,” he continued.
