Iran elected chairman of an anti-drug committee

Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar, who is attending the fifty-sixth session of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) in Vienna, has been elected as the chairman of regional states committee against illicit drugs.
More than 1,000 representatives from across the globe are attending the meetings to discuss issues ranging from international cooperation in combating drugs to public health and safety concerns, including the threat of new psychoactive substances.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran, which is on the front line of the war on drugs, has a very strong determination in this regard,” Mohammad-Najjar, who is also the director of the country’s Drug Control Headquarters, told the participants of the meeting on Tuesday.

He added that Iran has paid a heavy price in the war on drugs.

According to the latest data published by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Iran seizes a significant percentage of all the drugs confiscated in the world.
