Several killed as fresh Takfiri infighting erupts in Syria

Militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group have engaged in fierce fighting with other militant groups in various parts of Syria.

Press TV has learned that the ISIL Takfiri militants clashed with militants from the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front and Ahrar al-Sham in a suburb of Dayr al-Zawr.

A powerful car bomb explosion also killed at least five militants and severely injured several others in the same troubled region.

According to the so-called Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the bomb went off near the offices of two foreign-backed militant groups, al-Nusra Front and Ahrar al-Sham.

A commander of Ahrar al-Sham was reportedly among the dead.

So far, there have been no claims of responsibility, but both groups have been fighting against the rival ISIL since April.

The fighting in the Khesham area also broke out after talks between the militant groups failed.

The ISIL militants also fought against Kurdish fighters in the town of Tall Tamar in Hasakah governorate, targeting Kurdish checkpoints.

Clashes between the militant groups still continue despite an order by al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri to stop the infighting.

Months of violent conflicts among different armed groups have killed thousands of Takfiri militants in Syria.

This comes as the Syrian army continues combing through the towns of Kassab and al-Nabein after clearing foreign-backed Takfiri militants out of them.

Syrian fighter jets have bombed the main position of ISIL militants in northern Syrian city of Raqqah.

The latest army gain has secured the only border crossing into Turkey from Latakia province and foiled the militants’ plan to control the Syrian coastline near Turkey.

The Syrian government says its troops are going ahead with their operations to push out the foreign-backed militants from residential areas across the country.

According to reports, Western powers and their regional allies – especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey – are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.
