Iranian, Syrian Delegations Discuss Tehran-Damascus Economic Ties

Iranian and Syrian delegations held meetings in Tehran to explore avenues for the further expansion of economic ties between the two countries.

The Iranian side was headed by Foreign Minister’s Special Assistant Hassan Kazzemi Qomi and Director of the Syrian Prime Minister’s Office Taisir al-Zoabi headed the Damascus delegation in the Monday’s meeting.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed expansion of the two countries’ economic ties and the Iranian side voiced Tehran’s preparedness to transfer its experiences to Syria in a bid to help Damascus live through the current crisis.

The Syrian official, for his part, thanked the Iranian nation and government for their support for the Syrian nation, and underlined further expansion of trade exchanges between the two countries.

The meeting came prior to a Tuesday visit to Tehran by Syrian Prime Minister Wael Nader al-Halqi. Halqi is scheduled to arrive in Tehran today and is due to meet with Iranian First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi upon arrival in the capital.

The two sides will discuss establishment of peace in Syria, enhancement of economic and agricultural cooperation between Tehran and Damascus as well as the latest regional developments.

The Syrian prime minister is also slated to attend meetings with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, and other high-ranking officials during his stay in Tehran.
