Deputy Trade Minister assassinated

Deputy Minister for Industry, Mines, and Trade has been shot dead in his car.

Mehr News reported that yesterday (Sunday) at 20:04 a Peugeot Pars car was deviated from its path in Golbarg St, Tehran and immediately snatched the attention of the pedestrians, since its lights were on. A traffic police attended to the scene and found a man shot in head and chest, lying dead.

The examination of his documents revealed him to be Safdar Rahmatabadi, deputy-minister for Industry, Mines, and Trade. He was shot dead by two bullets. Police is carrying out an investigation to the crime. Security police commander told reporters that the assassins had probably personal motivations. Col. Alireza Mehrabi told police was investigating the case.

Ali Abdollahi, Deputy Interior Minister for Security also told police’s investigation immediately after the crime indicated that Mr. Rahmatabadi had been shot from inside the automobile.

An informed source in police forces told Mehr News correspondent that no one had been detained for the crime and detectives in Tehran’s 10th office were investigating the case.
