Iran’s Judiciary Spokesman: Nazanin Zaghari in Full Health

Iran’s Judiciary Spokesman Gholam Hossein Esmayeeli categorically rejected western media reports that Nazanin Zaghari, an Iranian national who is now serving term in jail for spying for London, has been infected with coronavirus, stressing that she is completely healthy and has contacted her family.

“She (Nazanin Zaghari) is fully healthy, but due to the prevailing media atmosphere, the news on her good health has not received coverage,” Esmayeeli said in a televised news conference on Tuesday.

He said Zaghari has contacted her family yesterday.

His remarks came after Zaghari’s husband, Richard Ratcliffe claimed that she is suspected of coronavirus infection. Ratcliffe had also claimed that Naznin had not been allowed to contact her husband.

Nazanin’s family live in Iran, but her husband lives in London.

Meantime, Iranian Ambassador to Britain Hamid Baeedinejad wrote on his twitter page minutes ago that “Mr. Esmaili, the spokesman of Iran’s judiciary, announced that Mrs. Nazanin Zaghari is in good health condition and has not been affected with Choronavirus. He added that one of the prisoners with security charges will be granted a furlough today or tomorrow to join family.”

Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a project manager with the Thomson Reuters Foundation, was arrested in Tehran in April 2016 as she was returning to Britain.

While the British media have claimed that she was arrested after a family visit, former British Foreign Secretary and current Prime Minister Boris Johnson disclosed in remarks to a parliamentary committee that Zaghari-Ratcliffe was “simply teaching people journalism as I understand it” when she was arrested at Tehran airport.
