Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has arrived in Switzerland to take part in the 44th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in the city of Davos and express Iran’s views on different matters.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday ahead of his departure, Rouhani said, “Iran’s presence in the Davos meeting will be very effective in expressing the Islamic Republic’s views on economic issues as well as political, regional and international ideas.”

He added that the event is among very effective international meetings that politicians, experts, university professors and managers of importance economic enterprises as well as senior officials of different countries attend it.

“The World Economic Forum is the best place for convergence,” the Iranian president stated.

Rouhani noted that he would deliver a speech at the WEF meeting and would also address heads of world enterprises and companies active in the oil and gas sectors.

The Iranian president added that he would also give interviews and hold talks with political and economic officials attending the meeting.

The visit is President Rouhani’s first European trip since taking office in August 2013.

The visit also comes following partial sanctions relief offered to Iran in the wake of a nuclear deal it struck with the six major world powers – the US, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany – on November 24, 2013.

The World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2014 is set to be held from January 22 to 25, with the theme of “The Reshaping of the World: Consequences for Society, Politics and Business.”

This year’s annual summit aims to develop the insights, initiatives and actions necessary to respond to current and emerging challenges.

The WEF is an independent international organization committed to improving the state of the world by engaging business, political, academic and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas.
