Fire in Abadan’s refinery not intentional

A local official in this southern province said Tuesday that the fire at the provincial city of Abadan’s oil refinery was not intentional.

Head of Abadan’s Governor Office Hamid Qana’ati told that the fire was broken out at the third phase of Abadan’s refinery minutes after it was inaugurated this morning.

The fire started due to the flying sparks, Qana’ati added.

He said that 25 persons, mostly firefighters, were hurt due to burns and also for inhaling poisonous gases.

According to Qana’ati, one of the victims died as he was burnt over 95 percent.

The third phase of Abadan’s refinery was inaugurated earlier Tuesday morning by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
