Arab Paper: UAE Biggest Loser of Coalition against Tehran

A leading Arab newspaper warned the UAE that it will not benefit from a coalition with the US and Israel against Iran and it should merely defend their interests.

The Arabic-language al-Quds al-Arabi newspaper referred to the recent remarks by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who claimed that the UAE and Israel reached an agreement to form an anti-Iran coalition to support the US interests and the Middle-East, and said his comments indicate that the peace agreement between the two is not important and the priority is a political-military coalition against Iran.

“Certainly, in this coalition the UAE will play the role of a country which takes orders because the goal is to defend the US interests against Iran’s threat,” it added.

“The UAE’s situation in the possible coalition against Iran will be the situation of a side which sustains the most damages and will be the biggest loser because it is the closest country which can be attacked by the Iranian artillery and warships,” the paper warned.

US President Donald Trump on August 13, announced a deal brokered by his government between Israel and the UAE which he said would lead to full normalization of ties between the two.

Critics see the deal as the latest attempt by Trump to save his presidential campaign against the Democrat Joe Biden.

Palestinians have reacted with shock and dismay after Trump unveiled an agreement between the United Arab Emirates and Israel to normalize ties.

The deal pledges full normalisation of relationships between the two countries in the areas of security, tourism, technology and trade in return for suspending Israel’s annexation plans in the West Bank.

Both the Palestinian leadership and public were caught by surprise when the announcement came.
