Norwegian police arrest 3 for helping Syria terrorists

Norwegian police detain three Norwegian nationals on suspicion of supporting Takfiri militant groups fighting against the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The Norwegian Police Security Service PST said on Tuesday that the men were suspected of having participated as foreign fighters for the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

The men were reportedly providing material support to ISIL and some other Takfiri militant groups.

The development comes as Brigadier General Abdulellah al-Basheer of the so-called Free Syrian Army has urged the UK to help fight the ISIL.

Basheer has written to British media, saying the ISIL keeps attacking other foreign-backed opposition groups fighting the Syrian government.

He has warned that ISIL members have been engaged in beheadings, crucifixions and the ill-treatment of women.

According to Basheer, ignoring the trend could lead to British extremists returning home to continue the path of destruction

This comes as al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front and ISIL have been engaged in fierce infighting over the past few months.

The Western powers and their regional allies — especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey — are said to be supporting the militants operating inside Syria.

Analysts say the scenario against Syria will backfire on the West as militants are now returning to the countries they came from including those in Europe.

Syrian government says its troops are going ahead with their operations to push out the foreign-backed militants from residential areas across the country.
