Iran MP blasts political UN resolution

An Iranian lawmaker has slammed a “political” resolution passed at the UN General Assembly’s Third Committee accusing Tehran of human rights violation.

“The influence and dominance of arrogant leaders and powers, including the United States, over the United Nations have been proved to all nations,” spokesman for the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) Legal and Judiciary Commission Amin Hossein Rahimi told IRNA on Saturday.

He added that most of the time the United Nations acts politically under the influence of the Zionist lobby and the United States.

The lawmaker emphasized that issues included in the resolution against Iran on women’s rights are not true and added that those who voted in favor of the resolution have no information about regulations in the Islamic Republic.

“It seems that they have not read Iran’s laws even once,” Rahimi further explained.

The remarks came after the adoption of the most recent Western-sponsored UN draft resolution on Thursday in a politically-motivated move, accusing Iran, North Korea, and Myanmar of violating human rights.

The draft resolution was sponsored by the United States, the European Union, Canada, and other Western countries.

Many countries and international organizations have criticized Western countries for their double standards on human rights and their politicization of rights issues at the United Nations.

The 118-member Non-Aligned Movement and the 57-member Organization of the Islamic Conference condemned the resolution against Iran.

In a meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in New York on Friday, Secretary General of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights Mohammad Javad Larijani said the resolution against Iran was illegal.

He said the resolution is part of a plot by the US meant to derail Iran’s constructive interaction with the United Nations, adding that it puts the status of the UN Human Rights Council into question.
