According to the Mehr News Agency, Al-Kazemi received the head of the Iranian Central Bank, Nasser al-Hamti, in Baghdad, and issued orders to solve the financial problems Iran faces in its negotiations with Iraq.
Al-Kazemi expressed his hope to lift the sanctions imposed on Iran quickly and return the conditions to their previous nature, adding that he had held several meetings with the relevant officials in Iraq in order to solve the financial problems faced by Iran in its dealings with Iraq and pay its demands.
He said: “Our message to our friends in Tehran is that Iraq is pursuing this policy.”
He pointed to Iraq’s desire to benefit from Iran’s successful experiences in facing challenges, noting the necessity to resume trade exchanges that have shrunk between the two countries due to the coronavirus.
Al-Kazemi’s comments come at a time when the U.S. is applying heavy pressure on Tehran through a range of sanctions.
