Iran congratulates Lebanon on its Liberation Day
Iran has congratulated Lebanon and the resistance movement Hezbollah on the 14th anniversary of the liberation of southern Lebanon from the Israeli occupation.
In a congratulatory message to Hezbollah Secretary General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah on Sunday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif hailed the sacrifices made by the Lebanese nation and courageous resistance fighters in driving away the occupying forces of the Israeli regime from the southern parts of Lebanon in 2000.
“This unforgettable historical epic that was reflected in the humiliating withdrawal of Zionist (Israeli) assailants from southern Lebanon will remain in public minds,” the Iranian foreign minister stated.
In a separate message, the Iranian foreign minister also offered congratulations to his Lebanese counterpart Gebran Bassil on the occasion of Lebanon’s Liberation Day, which falls on May 25.
Zarif also described the 2000 pullout of the Israeli forces as a “turning point” in Lebanon’s modern history, adding that this “historical victory” was achieved through unity among all religious and political groups in the country.
Hezbollah forced the Israeli military out of the southern parts of Lebanon on May 25, 2000, after more than two decades of occupation.
People in Lebanon consider May 25 as a beginning of dramatic change in the region.
The Lebanese commemorate the day as a national holiday and see it as a transformation that changed the regional equations for good, and put an end to the invincibility myth of the Israeli military.
