Iran to host regional inter-parliamentary meeting

Iran’s head of Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission has said Tehran will host inter-parliamentary meeting on March 9th.

Allaeddin Boroujerdi, who was speaking in the Imam Khomeini International Airport back to Tehran from regional visits to Syria and Lebanon, told that he had proposed to his Syrian counterpart holding of an inter-parliamentary session before international inter-parliamentary conference with Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, and Syria attending. “I think the meeting would be possibly held in March 9th,” Boroujerdi was quoted to say.

Boroujerdi pointed to major discussions in Syria and Lebanon. “Fighting Takfiri groups was the main issue for discussion in both Syria and Lebanon,” he added. “Visiting Lebanon and Syria was in line with parliamentary diplomacy of Majlis and in the framework provided by Iran and Syrian parliamentary friendship group,” he said.

He also told that he had met with Syrian and Lebanese prime minister, president, speaker of the parliament, and foreign minister. “Another major issue was the latest developments afield following the failure of Geneva-2 conference on Syrian crisis. The situation in Syria is improving and the government forces control more and more regions,” Boroujerdi added, and that “today, they took back Aleppo airport and now it operates normally.”

Boroujerd representative to the Parliament said that groups supported by the US and its allies set off for Syria to fight the Syrian army often fall victim to ambushes worked out by the army.
