Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian underlined Iran’s support for a political solution to the Yemeni crisis, and warned that certain states’ support for Al-Qaeda terrorist group in Yemen will pose a major threat to regional and international security.

“Assistance to the reinvigoration of terrorism in Yemen will only make this dangerous phenomenon more complicated for the international security,” Amir Abdollahian said in a meeting with New Zealand’s Deputy Foreign Minister Bead Curry and the accompanying delegation in Tehran on Monday.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister reminded the repercussions of the mistakes made by some countries that supported the spread of terrorism in the region in the past, and expressed regret over these states’ continued willingness to make an instrumental use of the terrorist groups as a repetition of the same old mistakes.

Amir Abdollahian called on the global community to show serious resolve to fight terrorism in the Middle East.

New Zealand’s deputy foreign minister, for her part, reiterated the unfavorable consequences of Middle East insecurity on international peace and security, and praised Iran’s seriousness in fighting terrorism in the region.

Curry reiterated that New Zealand and Iran share common stances on containment of terrorism in Iraq, and said, “The two countries’ policies in Iraq are aimed at reinforcing the legitimacy of Iraq’s central government.”

She also voiced support for the immediate dispatch of humanitarian aid to Yemen, halt to military operations in that country, national dialogue, national reconciliation and formation of a broad-based government in Yemen based on Iran’s plan.

Earlier today, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani described the Saudi-led aggression against Yemen as a big mistake and a plot hatched against the regional nations.

“The military attack on Yemen is a large-scale plot against the regional states and a big mistake that is harmful to the Muslim nations, including the Palestinian nation,” Larijani said in a meeting with Secretary General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) Abu Ahmad Fouad.

He noted that the weapons which are currently being used against the Yemeni nation should, instead, be used for helping the Palestinian nation to restore their usurped rights.

“The entire Muslim world capacity should be utilized against the main enemy, that is the Quds Occupying regime, and for the freedom of the occupied territories; conflicts among Muslim countries serve the interests of the Quds Occupying Regime and are against the Muslim world,” Larijani added.

According to reports, the Saudi warplanes continued their deadly attacks on Monday, and bombed Yemen’s radio and TV station building in the capital Sana’a.

Saudi Arabia started its unauthorized aerial bombardments on Yemen on March 26. The Saudi-led attacks have drawn international criticism after claiming the lives of at least 1,042 people, mostly women and children, and razing thousands of housing units to the ground.

Also, more than 2,500 people have been injured during the attacks as the Saudi offensive enters its 19th consecutive day.

Some western countries, including the US, have backed the Saudi aggression despite international calls for a swift halt to the attacks.
