The Syrian ambassador to the United Nations says Takfiri ISIL militants are a threat to the entire Middle East.

On Wednesday, Bashar al-Ja’afari said in an exclusive interview with Press TV that the chaos in the region is aimed at pitting Muslims against each other.

ISIL terrorists and other militants are boosting their operations in the region, Ja’afari said, referring to the seizure of a huge former chemical weapons facility northwest of the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Tuesday.

In a letter distributed on Tuesday at the UN, Iraq said remnants of 2,500 chemical rockets filled with the deadly nerve agent sarin are kept along with other chemical warfare agents in the facility. On June 12, the site’s surveillance system showed that some equipment was looted.

The Syrian envoy also criticized a decision by the United States to fund what it calls “moderate opposition” in the country.

Ja’afari added that the Syrian government was fighting terrorism and favored continuing with national reconciliation to tackle the crisis that has gripped the country for more than three years.

Over 160,000 people have reportedly been killed and millions of others displaced due to the turmoil fueled by the foreign-backed militants.
