Islamic Iran to Great Satan US, UK: Stop meddling in region

Iran’s Foreign Minister says the US is plotting to win the support of certain regional countries and that there is no need for western interference.

Regional security should be maintained by regional countries. There is no need for the US and Britain interference in this regard, IRNA quoted Ali Akbar Salehi as saying in an interview with NTV channel on Thursday.

He added that the US is carrying out certain activities to “find allies in the region” but Iran recommends regional states to avoid entering dangerous issues.

Asked about the Great Satan US letter to Islamic Iran regarding the Strait of Hormuz, Salehi said Washington should build goodwill and call for talks with no preconditions.

On January 15, Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast confirmed that the US message had been sent to Iran via three different channels, including the US Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice, the Swiss Ambassador to Tehran Livia Leu Agosti, and Iraqi President Jalal Talabani.

Mehmanparast stated on Tuesday the US note does not indicate a serious change in Washington’s approach to and relations with Tehran.

The Strait of Hormuz became the focal point of the recent escalation of tensions between Washington and Tehran after the US announced plans to boycott the Central Bank of Iran over the country’s nuclear program.
