Israel kills 4-year-old boy in Gaza’s Jebaliya

Israel has killed a 4-year-old boy and injured several others during the latest attacks against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Ashraf al-Qudra, the emergency services spokesman, said the boy, Samih Ijneid, was killed when a shell hit a house in the east of Jebaliya. He added that the boy was the first person to be killed in Gaza on Monday.

The development comes as Israeli tanks shelled Jebaliya in northern Gaza on Monday, when Palestinians were celebrating the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

More than 1,050 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed since Israel began its attacks on the Gaza Strip on July 8.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel will continue its military operations in Gaza regardless of the high civilian casualties.

He admitted that the rising number of Palestinians killed in Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip has cost Tel Aviv dearly in the world public opinion, claiming that the Israeli military is not killing civilians in the besieged enclave.

On Sunday, the UN Security Council agreed on a statement calling for an “immediate” and “unconditional” ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

The statement expressed concerns over the loss of human lives in Gaza and urged both Israel and the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas to “accept and fully implement the humanitarian ceasefire into the Eid (al-Fitr) period and beyond.”
