Israeli attack on aid Flotilla piracy

Israel’s deadly attack on the Freedom Flotilla is tantamount to piracy as the Israeli forces assaulted the fleet in international waters, activists say.

Human rights activists and journalists have blasted Israel after its violent Monday morning carnage on the aid convoy en route to the besieged Gaza Strip and likened Tel Aviv’s move to a pirate attack on the high seas.

“The unprovoked attack on the aid flotilla happened in international waters and Israel had no legal basis to control the area and the aid convoy could bring whatever they liked. The humanitarian aid was just a small fraction of what Gaza needs,” American Journalist, Henry Norr told Press TV on Tuesday.

In addition, he added that it is impossible for Israel to achieve security because “security is achieved through peace and not via multibillion dollar weapons systems” provided to Tel Aviv by the US government.

The US keeps pumping “three billion dollars into Israel every year” alongside “other appropriations” as most of the pro-Israeli bills get congressional backing due to “strong lobbying” for the regime in the US polity, said Norr.

Most of the military aid packages are given to the regime as part of what is called “defensive” schemes so US officials could clear the legal hurdles that might obstruct their passage, he argued.

Meanwhile, Adie Mormech, a human rights activist campaigning to break the siege of Gaza said, “The attack also depicted Israel’s lawlessness and that the international community allows the Israelis to get away with everything.”

“This comes as about 80 percent of people in Gaza are living below the poverty line under the blockade and are in need of basic everyday necessities,” he went on to say.

The attack on the ships carrying some 10,000 tons of humanitarian aid to Gazans left at least 20 people dead and scores injured.
